The Dog Who Changed Everything
Like many people, I’ve known the joy of sharing my life with a dog and the heartbreak of saying goodbye. When I suddenly lost my West Highland Terrier, Jasper, it changed something in me.
It wasn’t simply that I wished I had better photographs.
It was the realisation that the little things I’d loved most about him – his expressions, his habits and the moments that made him unmistakably Jasper – were the memories I wanted to hold onto.
That realisation became the foundation of everything I do today.
More Than Recognition
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to receive awards for both my photography and my business, and I’m genuinely proud of them.
Not because they’re trophies sitting on a shelf, but because of what they represent.
One recognised the photographs I create. The other recognised the experience I work so hard to give every client.
Neither was ever about being better than anyone else.
To me, they simply reinforce what has always mattered most – creating photographs that people connect with and an experience they’ll remember long after we’ve parted company..
They remind me why I do this, and why I’ll never stop striving to give every client and every pet the very best experience I possibly can.
Giving Something Back
Photography has also given me the opportunity to give something back. Supporting organisations close to my heart and raising much needed funds has become a huge part of my business.
I believe photography should do more than create beautiful artwork. I believe it can make a positive difference too.
The Moments I’ll Never Forget
The greatest reward has never been a certificate or a title. It’s sitting beside someone as they see their finished artwork for the first time.
Hearing them smile and say, “You’ve captured them perfectly.” Watching them recognise that familiar expression, mischievous look or little spark of personality they’ve known and loved for years.
And sometimes, before they manage to find the words, there are tears.
Not tears of sadness, but of recognition. Of seeing the companion they love looking back at them in a way that feels completely real.
In that moment, the artwork becomes so much more than a photograph—it becomes a reminder of everything they love about their companion.
Those moments are a privilege to witness, and one I never take for granted.
My Promise to You
If you choose me to photograph your pet, I hope you’ll leave with more than beautiful portraits on your walls.
I hope you’ll leave with something that instantly feels familiar. Something that, every time you walk past it, makes you smile because it doesn’t just look like your dog…
It feels like them.
Because, in the end, that’s what this has always been about.
Looking Beyond the Pose
When I photograph a dog today, I’m not looking for perfect obedience or a polished pose. I’m looking for the familiar expression or little action that makes you smile.
The look they give only you. The little quirks you’ve come to know without even thinking about them. The zoomies. The head tilt. The way they sit, watch or wait. The tiny moments that make you smile and think, “That’s exactly why I love them.”
Those are the moments that matter.
Learning photography gave me the technical skills to create beautiful portraits, but everything that came before shaped the photographer I became.
My approach has never been about controlling dogs or forcing moments to happen. It’s about creating the right environment, giving them the freedom to be themselves, and quietly observing until their personality naturally reveals itself.
My Story
It Started Somewhere Unexpected
I never set out to become a pet photographer. For almost thirty years, I worked as a police officer, so the two couldn’t be more different. Or so I thought.
Looking back, I realise that my career taught me far more than I ever expected. It taught me to observe before acting, to listen carefully, to earn trust rather than expect it and to notice the details others often miss.
At the time, I had no idea those same qualities would one day shape the way I photographed dogs.
