Frequently Asked Questions
About the Experience:
What happens during a professional pet photography session?
Your session is designed to feel relaxed, fun and unhurried. I encourage your pet to explore, walk and behave naturally, using gentle posing techniques while I photograph them in a calm, unobtrusive way. The focus is always on capturing their personality, expressions and the connection you share — not forcing them into positions that don’t feel comfortable.
I’ve never done a professional photoshoot before — is that a problem?
Not at all. Most clients haven’t. You don’t need to know what to do or how to prepare — that’s my role. I’ll guide you through every stage, from planning the session through to choosing your finished artwork, so you can relax and simply enjoy the experience.
How long does a pet photography session last?
Sessions typically last between one and two hours, but there’s no strict time limit. We work at your pet’s pace, allowing breaks when needed. Some pets settle quickly, others need more time — both are completely fine.
Do you help me decide what will work best for my pet?
Yes. Every pet is different, and part of my role is helping you make decisions that suit your animal. From choosing the right location to planning the flow of the session, everything is tailored around your pet’s personality, energy levels and comfort.

About Pets & Behaviour:
Can you photograph nervous, reactive or elderly pets?
Absolutely. Many of the animals I photograph are nervous, reactive, elderly or sensitive in some way. Sessions are approached with patience, understanding and flexibility, ensuring your pet feels safe and respected throughout. There is never any pressure to perform.
What if my dog must stay on a lead or doesn’t have reliable recall?
Safety always comes first. Your dog can remain on a lead if needed, and I work around this during the session. Any visible leads and harnesses can usually be removed during editing, so your final artwork still feels natural and uncluttered.
Can you photograph multiple pets together?
Yes. Multiple pets can be photographed together or individually during the same session. We’ll plan the session in a way that keeps everyone relaxed and allows each pet to shine, without rushing or overwhelming them.

About Locations:
Where do pet photography sessions take place?
Sessions take place outdoors in carefully chosen locations such as woodland or beach settings across West Sussex and Hampshire, or somewhere meaningful to you. I’ll help you select a location that suits your pet and complements the style of artwork you’d love for your home.
Can we choose a location that means something to us?
Of course. If there’s a place that holds special meaning for you and your pet, we can absolutely incorporate that into your session, provided it’s safe and suitable.
Do you travel to clients’ homes?
Yes. I always offer in-home consultations prior to every session so I can understand your preferences, your home décor and how you’d like to display your finished artwork. This helps ensure your portraits feel truly personal. If you would like your photographs taken at your home, this is entirely possible.

About Artwork & Products
What happens after the photography session?
After your session, you’ll be invited to a relaxed design consultation where you’ll view your portraits and choose how you’d like them displayed. Rather than online galleries, this is a guided experience where I help you select artwork that feels right for your home.
How do I choose my finished artwork?
You don’t have to decide alone. I’ll guide you through the options, helping you choose images and artwork sizes that suit your space, style and budget — we’ll consider your décor, colour palette and wall space so your artwork feels cohesive and intentional within your home. This ensures your final pieces feel considered, not rushed.
What type of artwork do you offer?
I specialise in high-quality framed wall art and beautifully crafted pieces designed to be displayed and enjoyed every day. These are not prints meant to live on a hard drive — they’re lasting pieces for your home.

About Pricing & Booking:
How much does a professional pet photography session cost?
There is a £95 Session Fee that covers the planning, photography and design consultation. It also includes an 8”x6” print presented in a mount. Artwork is purchased separately, allowing you to choose pieces that suit your preferences. Clients tend to invest between £600 and £2000 but there is an option for all budgets. Full details are discussed transparently during your discovery call.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Flexible payment options are available, and these can be discussed during your design consultation if helpful.
How do I book a session?
Head over to the “Contact Jo” page to see the ways you can get in touch with Jo. Booking begins with a relaxed discovery call, followed by an in-home consultation, your photography session, and finally your design appointment where you select your artwork.
What areas do you cover?
I photograph pets across West Sussex and Hampshire. If you’re unsure whether I cover your area, just ask.

About Emotional & Legacy Questions:
Why should I choose professional pet photography?
Because these portraits become more meaningful over time. They’re not just photographs — they’re reminders of a relationship, a chapter, and a presence that deserves to be remembered properly.
My pet is getting older — is now the right time?
Often, yes. Many clients book because they want to preserve this moment exactly as it is. These sessions are gentle, unhurried and deeply meaningful — especially for older pets.
Do you offer end-of-life photography?
Yes I do. You may have your photographs taken at home or at a location with special meaning. I take a great deal of care with these sessions to ensure your pet is comfortable and happy whilst I capture these hugely poignant portraits at a very emotional time.
